Diwali CelebrationDiwali celebration programme was held on Monday, 24th October 2011. Diwali or Deepawali popularly known as the ‘festival of lights’. It is an important festival in Hinduism, celebrated for different reasons, occurring between Mid-October and mid-November. For Hindus Diwali is the most important festivals of the year and is celebrated in familiar by performing traditional activities together in their homes. For Jains, Diwali marks the attainment of ‘moksha’ or ‘nirvana’ by ‘Mahavira’ in 527 BC.
The name of ‘Diwali’ is a contraction of ‘Deepavali’ which translates into “row of lamps”. Diwali involves the lighting of small clay lamps filled with oil to signify the triumph of good over evil. During the all the celebrants wear new clothes and share sweets and snacks with family members and friends.
The celebration of our school was started in the presence of our principal and the headmistress. Sr. Teresa lit the lamp and followed Sr. Lovely, our head mistress. The school choir presented a song and the students of class III and IV performed a beautiful group dance. All the class-teachers along with their students lit the earthen lamb. Sr. Theresa and Sr. Lovely showed their blessings on the students and teachers. They also told them the harmful effects of crackers.
Sr. Lovely birthday was also celebrated by the students and teachers. The prgoramme ended with the vote of thanks from Sr. Lovely.
